Many Gulf states severe ties with Qatar, chaos on Doha airport
Tens of canceled flights on Doha International Airport, as Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, Libya and United Arab Emirates have cut diplomatic relations with Qatar and decided to block all air, land and sea connections with this country.
The six countries asked their citizens not to travel to Qatar, while Qataris have two weeks to leave their territories. They have motivated this unprecedented move by accusing Qatar of destabilizing the region through backing radical groups and Iran. Doha called the decision “unjustified”.
The airlines operating between Qatar and its Gulf neighbors have already announced that they are suspending all flights on these routes. Etihad and Emirates operate four daily return flights to Doha from Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively.
FlyDubai, Air Arabia, Gulf Air and Egyptair will cancel their flights as well.
Qatar Airways will likely be the hardest hit carrier, as the six countries have closed their airspace for its routes. The airline already suspended its flights to Saudi Arabia. All customers booked on affected flights will be provided with alternative options, including the option of a full refund on any unused tickets and free rebooking to the nearest alternative Qatar Airways network destination.
